Hello and welcome back!
I've got to say, I was about to throw in the towel with the update this week. It has been a busy one so I didn't even see the site for the entire week (sorry if anyone looked forward for the book review) and then to top it off I became incredebly ill yesterday, to the point I missed work (which if you know me, I never do even when I'm sick, if I know I can function I'm there), so today has been a day of laying down and watching movies while i get over my delirious state.
Nevertheless, this is only my third week doing this and if I'm giving up this soon then I'll disappoint myself, so here goes nothing!
This week was rough in many ways, prices are rising and that lead to lines in gas stations and my dear post-lunch supermarket run to buy chocolate mousse was interrupted by people with carts full of toilet paper, but that's not what I'm here to talk about, after all, isn't this supposed to be about joy?
I've lost the plot of this a little so I'm planning to bring it back into focus, so in an ominous week, here's what made me happy:
Since the weather has been getting colder with the start of fall (southern hemisphere here) I decided I needed a way to continue drinking hot water during the day without drinking too much coffee, so I went to this tea shop and bought a raspberry tea, brough the box with me to the office along with my cute infuser and a matching old coffee cup I found in my house to leave the infuser in and now I have pink tea all through the afternoon while I'm at work. I took a picture of my infuser and cup because they look so cute, it makes me smile just to have it.
Another thing that lifted my mood this week, was that, despite what I said about the weather, after a few weeks of rain we had a lot of sun, although it made it a bit hard to pick out outfits in the morning, you see, I feel I had become comfortable making nice outfits with my summer wardrobe, but as it's getting colder I realized I kinda forgot what clothes work for fall (I have enought things for winter though, but it's not cold enough to pull those out yet). Specially since my dear town is known for changing weather within the same day, I stand paralyzed in front of my closet every morning trying to find something to wear. My favorite outfit was this thursday, when combined a newer plum-colored t-shirt with a purple long-sleeve underneath that I never wear because it is way low cut. But thursday turned out to be quite a nice day anyways, and I took a picture of the view while I was waiting at the optician (who confirmed I'm not getting anymore near-sighted than I already was).
That very same day I went to a ceremony with a friend of mine. They were opening up my University library for the public. I hadn't been able to go since I graduated two years ago and I always felt I didn't make the most of it (I wasn't that big of a reader back then and I also was usually at another campus). I frequent my municipal library but the schedule doesn't allow me to go that often anymore (it closes at 4pm, the uni one since it's for students closes at 8pm), so I'm glad to have another option when I want to borrow books and I think it can be great to the community to give people more access to books.
I mentioned last week that this week the World Figure Skating Championships were happening and while I couldn't fully tune in, I do have my highlights, if you'd like to watch.
Watching Kaori Sakamoto have her last skates cleanly and forget the mistake that cost her olympic gold, and the admiration of the entire field as she did it, was beautiful and a once in a lifetime experience as a FS fan. As well as watching Ilia Malinin be able to get through that free skate again after the crushing meltdown in Milan. Yuma Kagiyama finally giving us a clean rendition of that Turandot free was also a highlight, but other than that I love highlighing skaters that perhaps don't get that much promotion, so here are my favorite performances from skaters that perhaps you haven't heard about:
Aleksandr Selevko's Prince short program was one of the top programs of the season for me, but he took it to another level this worlds! Nina Pinzarrone really proved everyone wrong who said Belgium was out of the top ten, a great comeback from injury. Stephen Gogolev's short program is perfect for him, he still needs to perfect his emotion on his programs, but the short definetely matches him. Hannah Lim and Ye Quan's free dance was INCREDIBLE these worlds, so sad we couldn't see it at the olympics, and their choreographic elements are FIRE, they deserve the highest GOE of the event. I'll always have a soft spot for both Jacob Sanchez and any Umbrellas of Cherbourg program, so you'll understand why his short was one of my favorites of the event. Also, although he didn't qualify, I ADORED Semën Daniliants' short program. Mone Chiba and Lara Naki Gutmann having great runs was awesome since I've loved their programs all season. And loved Nataly Langerbaur's short to 13 beaches.
I'm almost entirely forgertting pairs, but Minerva and Nikita were my OGM and I'm so happy they won, but Lia and Trentt were my favorites this event, their "I don't want to fall in love" short program sky rocketed them this season. Nagaoka/Moriguchi finally showing their potential with two clean skates was fantastic too. And Yoshida/Morita showing how much they have improved in their PB rhythm dance! I was literally half falling asleep while I was sick watching and they brough me to life.
Outside of that, sadly I haven't gotten my hands into the typewriter but I'll let you know when I do.
Thank you for reading today!
Goodbye and see you!
